Weddings require multiple pieces of correspondence. Common stationery items used throughout the wedding process include save the date mailings, the wedding invitation, thank-you notes, ceremony programs, place cards and even menus for the reception. With so many paper pieces involved, decisions need to be made about the type of stationery used. Plans should be in place before the first piece of correspondence is sent out so that all items can coordinate with the theme or colors of the wedding and with each other.

    Custom Printing

  1. If you're working with a professional printer, see if the printer offers coordinated options for all types of the stationery you'll be using for your wedding. For example, when looking for save the date cards or wedding invitations, find out if the same pattern is available for the thank-you notes. Browse the paper options, including card stock in many colors, vellum overlays and recycled papers with petals and leaves embedded in the paper. A variety of ink colors, borders and graphics will be available so that you can choose printed items to complement the theme and style of the wedding.

For a summer ceremony, consider paper with embossed roses or a floral border, or even printing on brightly colored paper. For a fall ceremony, off-white card stock can be printed in shades of chocolate, burgundy and pumpkin. See what kind of embellishments, such as ribbon, bows and jewels, are available. Look at a variety of card styles, including one-sheet cards, half-folds, tri-folds and pinwheel-style folds.
  2. Hand-Crafted

  3. Personality and creative touches are easy to express when hand-crafting wedding stationery items. Choose this idea if the wedding is small and you have plenty of time to prepare. Creating stationery items by hand, in a scrapbooking style, is time-intensive, but the personal touch is priceless. You can handwrite or print out the necessary wedding details to incorporate into your design.

Decide on your design and check with a craft store to be sure that they can order enough pieces of card stock, ribbon, decorative paper and other embellishments to complete the required pieces of stationery. Purchase all of the supplies that you'll need at once, even if you're not ready to start making your paper items yet. You don't want to finding that out one or more of your supplies is out of stock or discontinued once you're well into crafting the pieces.
  4. Computer Generated

  5. Making printed items on with a computer program allows you and your spouse-to-be to express your creativity while automating the process to save time. Paper and ink can be chosen to match the wedding colors. Digital images or artwork can be added during the design process to customize the stationery with a particular theme, such as the beach, fall leaves or roses. There are also wedding stationery kits designed for printing on a computer so that all you have to do is input and format the text.
