Depression is both used to describe a generally sad mood and also a clinical disorder. Clinical depression affects millions of Americans, and it's the greatest cause of suicide. Depression is difficult to control, and most people suffering from clinical depression desperately want to come out of it. Fortunately, there are several techniques that can help end depression.

    Engage in New Activities

  1. Discover activities that you might have never known you would enjoy. Activities can give pleasure, help depressed people connect with others who share similar interests and create a sense of accomplishment in an individual.
  2. Think Positively

  3. Spend more time thinking about your accomplishments and things that make you happy. During failures, think about positive things that might come out of the failure. Failures lead to a realization of what doesn't work.
  4. Solve Problems Once and For All

  5. Remove aspects of your life that depress you. Avoid places, people and things that keep you down. Try to solve the problems that lead to depression such as debt or obesity. Get rid of things to be depressed about.
  6. Talk to People

  7. Don't suffer in silence. If there is anyone who is willing to listen, tell them about what you are going through. If you do not feel comfortable talking about things that bother you, simply work on your relationships that you already have.
  8. Realize What You Can Control

  9. If there is something you can do, do it. If there's nothing that you can do, you've already done all that you can do. Devote your time to activities that you have good control over in order to build up a sense of confidence.
  10. Relax

  11. Take more time to yourself. Go to the beach or take a warm bubble bath. Plan a vacation. Bring a journal along and get in touch with your mind.
  12. Exercise

  13. Find exercises that you enjoy. If the gym is not your thing, try sports of hip-hop dancing. Physical activity releases endorphins, which are feel-good chemicals, and also increases your overall health.
  14. Enjoy the Sun

  15. Spend more time outside. Vitamin E is very invigorating and can be acquired from the sun. Also, you may be suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder, where your mood is actually directly tied to the amount of sunlight you receive.
  16. Antidepressants

  17. Depression is partially biology-based. Consider trying antidepressants such as Zoloft and Prozac. However, become aware of the side effects of antidepressants before trying them.
  18. Sleep

  19. Get to bed at the same time every night. Engage in deep breathing. Take a warm shower before bed in order to encourage deep sleep.
