Once you have relaxed your hair, which is a permanent chemical hair treatment, you cannot revert the hair back to its original state. In order to get rid of the hair relaxer you can either grow it out until there is enough new growth to create a natural hairstyle, or you can cut all of your relaxed hair off. While your hair is growing out, it is very important to keep your hair moisturized as the relaxed hair will break off as it is replaced with the new growth.

Wash your hair once a week. The growing out phase will cause breakage, but a moisturizing shampoo can minimize this. Squeeze a quarter-size amount of shampoo into your palms, and coat your hair, focusing on your ends. Allow the shampoo to sit in your hair for five minutes, then gently wash it out with warm water.

Deep condition your hair after every wash. A deep conditioner improves hair's softness and reduces the risk of tangling, which your hair is highly susceptible to when growing out. Coat your hair with the deep conditioner and run a wide-toothed comb through your hair to evenly distribute the product.

Wait 45 minutes to one hour for the deep conditioner to penetrate your hair, then rinse it out with cool water.

Apply a daily moisturizing lotion to your hair to maintain moisture and prevent tangles.

Visit a hair stylist who can braid your hair, which allows your relaxed hair to grow out and reduce maintenance during the transition period.

Cut the relaxed hair off to immediately remove the relaxer. Electric clippers can be purchased at most drug stores and beauty supply stores. Hair can be shaved off at various levels depending on the clipper setting.

Tip

Comb your hair back and create a bun for your hair in the back, which allows your hair to grow out and maintain a sleek look during the process.
