Holy basil, or tulsi, an herb that contains antioxidant properties, provides fast sore throat and swollen gland relief. You can purchase holy basil online or at many health food stores. To make the holy basil home remedy, place three to five holy basil leaves into one cup of boiling water and simmer for about five minutes. Strain the mixture into a cup and add one-half teaspoon of honey. Drink the mixture slowly while it is still hot.

Cinnamon, an ancient medicinal herb, is an effective sore throat and swollen gland remedy. Add one teaspoon of coarsely powdered cinnamon and one pinch of black pepper to one cup of boiling water. Strain the mixture into a glass and add two teaspoons of honey. Slowly drink the hot mixture. You can also swallow two to three drops of cinnamon oil mixed with one teaspoon of honey for fast sore throat relief.

Fenugreek, also called Greek hay, is an ancient Mediterranean and Middle Eastern medicinal herb that you can buy at health food stores or online herb retailers. Fenugreek tea is an effective swollen gland and sore throat gargle. Prepare the gargle by simmering two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in about four cups of water for 30 minutes. Cool the mixture and strain. Gargle the mixture continuously until it is gone.

Sage, an antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal herb, can be used to effectively treat the pain and irritation caused by sore throats and swollen glands. You'll find sage at many garden shops, online retailers and health food stores. Make a sage gargle by adding a handful of sage leaves to two cups of water. Allow to cool and add honey and vinegar to taste. Drink one teaspoon of the mixture and then gargle the rest of the mixture continuously until it is gone.

You can make an effective sore throat remedy tea by adding one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, one pinch of cayenne pepper, the juice of one-fourth of a lemon and one teaspoon of honey to one cup of hot water. Thoroughly stir the mixture. Drink up to four cups of this tea per day for additional relief.
