Movie and video DVDs are specifically encoded to provide playback in DVD players. The files on the actual disc are specially encoded video and data that cannot simply be copied and pasted onto a computer. Clone DVD removes all of the technical process behind copying a DVD and makes it easy for the user to copy the disc. Learning the program is fairly simple and once a user understands the controls, they will be copying DVDs in no time.

    Set Up

  1. Load the Clone DVD program. Wait for the title splash to disappear and the main program screen to load. Insert the DVD into the computer's DVD drive. The program will automatically load and process the DVD. Check to see the DVD loaded correctly by looking at the "Disc Label". If nothing loads, check the "Source" option at the top of the screen and make sure the DVD computer drive is selected.
  2. DVD Content

  3. Decide which DVD content you want to keep or remove. The "Audio and Subtitle" section breaks off different components of the disc and you can eliminate any foreign languages to save space. Do this by clicking on the check mark next to each option. Remove trailers or bonus features by selecting the check marks in the "DVD Content" window. See the "DVD-Video Quality" meter to show how your DVD will copy. In most cases it will copy at 100 percent.
  4. Discs

  5. Choose what type of disc you want to copy. Standard DVD discs feature 4.7 gigabytes and that is the default selection for the program. Users can change this to a dual-layer DVD and copy a 9 gigabyte disc. Dual-layer discs store double the space as a standard disc and play in most DVD players. Using a Dual-layer disc will guarantee 100% quality without removing any of the disc's features. Change this by clicking the drop-down menu under "Writeable Disc Size".
  6. Options

  7. Change the program's options by clicking on the "Hammer" icon in the upper right-hand corner. Change the program's default language by clicking on the drop-down menu and selecting from over 100 different languages. Choose a "Burn Engine". If you do not know what that is, leave it as the default so your project is not ruined. See the "Event Log" to read about past operations and click the option to "Delete Temp Files" to save computer space.
  8. Errors

  9. While using the program, you may come across some errors. Click the big red button to start the copying process. This process could take a few hours and the computer should not be used at this time. If it is, the memory usage may cause the project to freeze or cause unexpected results. Some DVD discs may have copy protection on them that causes the whole computer to freeze. If this happens, restart the computer and try to copy the disc one more time. If it freezes more than once, the disc will not copy. Make sure the computer has at least 8 gigabytes of space before copying a disc or an error will occur.
