Creative Ways to Frame a Picture
The display of a picture adds visual interest. Department stores carry options with words, designs and more but can lack creativity and originality. Pictures tell visitors about people living in the home and add décor, but displaying pictures in creative ways can reveal more. Does this Spark an idea?

Mat Board
-
Use a mat board to dress up a picture. Buy frames that come with mat board or cut your own. Some craft stores cut mat board. Use any size. A small image pops with a large piece of mat board. Play with centering. For example, place a 5-by-6 inch picture toward the top of a vertical 8 1/2-by-11 inch frame. Mat board comes in multiple colors and can be written on. For a special event, have a mat board lying out for people to sign as a guestbook; later, frame a picture from the event inside. Choose a mat board color that makes the picture stand out.
Popsicle Stick Frame
-
Use Popsicle stick frames to display or gift kids' pictures. Use colored or plain Popsicle sticks. Have kids paint or decorate the sticks for a fun gift. Decorate the sticks before adding the picture. Create a back and front to the frame. Use Popsicle sticks to make the bottom and sides; one is wide enough. Leave the top open. Attach the photo using photo-safe tape or glue. Use a permanent market to write the date on the back. Glue magnets on the back or add a string for a Christmas ornament.

Shadow Box
-
Try using a shadow box, which is deeper than a picture frame. Start by putting in the photo. Add little items to embellish the picture. Attach with glue. Shadow boxes are usually open. By adding items, the scene in the picture is brought to life. You can buy shadow boxes at craft stores and department stores. Shadow boxes come in a variety of sizes.
Mount the shadow box to the wall. Create a design with multiple boxes with a common theme. For example, have various-sized boxes with a theme of a wedding. Shadow boxes can also be used to display scrapbook pages.
