The culprit behind unwanted facial hair for women is rooted in the androgen hormones that include testosterone. These levels tend to reach their peak during puberty and then increase again around menopause. Because menopause tends to generate the disproportionate hormonal levels, undesired facial hair can be stimulated to grow. Genetics can also play a part in increased hair growth on the face and body. Stress, the use of steroids or hormone pills can also play a role.
Common Remedies for Facial-Hair Removal
There are several effective means for facial-hair removal. Electrolysis is an aid in removing hair permanently, but it is more costly. Waxing and tweezing are also useful methods, but they tend to be painful and time-consuming. Gels and depilatory creams can be used, but they can cause allergic reactions for some. The actual process of shaving works for instantaneous hair removal, but the hair tends to grow back more quickly. Laser hair removal works temporarily and is more costly.
Holistic Remedy for Removing Facial Hair
There are also some proven effective, inexpensive homemade remedies for facial-hair removal without the side effects for most. One quick-fix recipe involves adding ¼ cup of lemon juice and two cups of sugar in a pan. Then heat in the microwave or on the stove until it begins to bubble. Stir, until it makes a smooth consistency. Dust the face with plain white flour or cornstarch to help soak up the oil from the skin. Smooth the sugar mixture over the face. Then press cotton cloth strips that are approximately one-inch wide on your face. Rub well and then wait for it to harden and cool. Pull the strip off as quickly as possible, pulling it the opposite way of the growth of the hair. Continue to do this two-to-three more times.
Other Alternatives for Unwanted Facial Hair
Another alternative in dealing with unsightly facial hair is to bleach it. A body-bleach packet can be purchased over the counter at the drug store. Hydrogen peroxide can also be used. Spread it evenly over the face, leaving it on for 10 minutes before thoroughly washing it off. This can be done once a week for the best results. Lime juice is also effective in bleaching facial hairs. Another method of bleaching is by dipping a ball of dough in olive oil and then rubbing it on the face for around 10 minutes. It gets rid of the hair from the roots. Do this for a six-month period, three times a week. This will permanently get rid of facial hair.
