Valentine's Day is certainly a holiday of the heart. While presenting your beloved a token of your love and affection is certainly a nice way to show you care, you do not have to spend a lot of money. If your budget it small but your adoration is immense, be creative and find an inexpensive yet thoughtful gift idea.

  1. So Many Reasons to Love
    So Many Reasons to Love
Saying, "I love you," to your Valentine is sweet, but on this special day you need to take it a step further. A creative and inexpensive way to show your Valentine your love is to make a love jar. You will need an inexpensive jar, such as a cookie jar or other lidded container, pastel-colored construction paper or stationery, ribbon and a pen or fine-tipped marker.

Cut the pastel paper into narrow strips. On each strip of paper write down a reason why you love your Valentine or a special memory of a day you shared together. Roll each strip of paper into a tiny scroll and tie each one with a small length of ribbon. Fill the jar with the tiny scrolls. If you are feeling particularly creative, you may want to write or paint, "Valentine's Day Love Jar," or "I Love You Because," on the outside of the jar.

Your Valentine can spend the day reading your little love notes or just take out one every day and savor them over time.
  2. Romantic Dinner

  3. Dine by Candlelight

Nothing says, "You are special," like a romantic dinner for two. However, restaurant bills can be pricey. If you need something a little more inexpensive, get creative and turn your kitchen, patio or living room into a dreamy dining spot. Decorate the room with Valentine's Day hearts and colors, dim the lights and place candles strategically throughout the area. Prepare your Valentine's favorite dinner, or be creative and try an exotic new recipe. Be sure to include a decadent dessert. One that you can feed each other, such as strawberries dipped in chocolate, will add to the starry-eyed atmosphere.
  4. Home Movie

  5. A Special Video
    A Special Video
Even if you are more technically inclined you can still be romantic and creative for Valentine's Day. Most computers come with programs that will allow you to create your own video. You can make an inexpensive DVD showing pictures of you and your Valentine together, or splice in bits of other home movies to span your history together. Add a soundtrack of "your" songs and other romantic tunes. Present it to your Valentine in a heart-shaped sleeve made from felt or construction paper and prepare to be hugged.
