Just about anything can be found on eBay. And it seems that just about everyone uses it. Certainly, eBay brings vendors and buyers from all around the world together. With so many potential customers, there should be a customer out there for anything. The trick is to have the right customer looking for the item at the time the item is up for sale. For that, nothing but luck can help. However, there are certain types of items that usually do quite well on eBay at all times.
Out of Print
Items that are out of print, listed on eBay as "oop," generally sell well. This refers to books, movies, music; anything that is "printed." One caveat: An item that is out of print today could go back into print at any time. So hanging onto an "oop" item may or may not improve its worth over time. Hang onto to it too long and suddenly the book or movie is available again at stores everywhere. But if your "oop" item is a first printing, it will generally retain its value as there are a lot of buyers who collect first- edition publications or original printings.
Limited-edition collectibles tend to retain their value. Much of this is largely dependent on how popular the collectible item is. Certain baseball cards go for a high price, while others are wroth almost nothing. Collectibles include commemorative issue stamps, coins, plates and figurines. Their worth is tied to the popularity of the event or person being commemorated. Additional considerations on the value of a collectible item depend on whether the item has its original packaging and what condition it's in. Collectible figurines include those by Hummel, Lenox, Franklin Mint, Hamilton Collection, Bradford Exchange and Roman, Inc.
Jewelry and Heirlooms
Jewelry, both fine and costume, is popular on eBay and will generally find quick sales. Heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation and no longer made, do well. Often people are looking for something like their grandmother used to own, or they are decorating in an older, country style. Heirlooms (antiques) sometimes are worth a great deal, especially if they are in good condition. Besides jewelry. other heirlooms that sell well include war memorabilia, such as medals, uniforms, flags and weaponry.
Digital cameras, game systems, even computer accessories sell well on eBay. Some people actively hunt for old systems they prefer, such as an older game system to play older games that they enjoy. Others are happy to buy what is just now out of date and stay one step behind and save money in the bargain.
