Boys' Night Out Ideas

Save

Sometimes, you just need to have a night out with the boys: An evening on the town where you can revel in your essential guyness. Most people think of boys' nights out as excuses to go to night clubs, drink in bars or maybe play some poker at a friend's house. But if you want to move beyond the obvious activities, you can find a number of unusual things to do that let your masculinity thrive.

Shooting Range

  • Guns aren't toys and should never be treated as such, but if you're looking for a great boys' night out, you might consider visiting a shooting range in your area. Shooting ranges provide a safe, secure environment to quietly fulfill some of those heroic fantasies you've dreamed about--and few things feel more empowering that popping off a few rounds. If you don't own any guns of your own, most ranges can rent them to you, as well as provide basic safety lessons (which you should always pay close attention to). In some cases, you can also test-fire weapons you might not otherwise be able to. If a straight-up shooting range doesn't appeal to you, consider a paint-balling session, which is much safer, but still lets you fire weapons at things with impunity.

Beer Tasting

  • Upscale bars and microbreweries in your area may offer beer tasting excursions which allow you to sample their various brands in an open and pleasing environment. Many breweries also offer tours of their facilities--available for a pittance or even free in some cases--allowing you and your friends to see how the beer gets made. If you're in a bar environment, you can include good food and munchies in the bargain. Beer tasting is more refined than simply drinking beer and may expose you to a new flavor which you can make a favorite. Make sure you make someone in your party a designated driver before you arrive (and be sure to pay for his soft drinks all night).

Racing and Go-Karts

  • Depending on where you live, you may have a nearby racetrack which allows you to test-run a high-end automobile or monster truck. If you don't (or you do, but the cost is a little steep), don't panic. Go-kart tracks provide similar thrills at a much cheaper price, and they're far more widespread. Most go-kart tracks these days are connected to a larger amusement center with miniature golf, arcade games, batting cages and the like all on the same property. If you can, find a place which uses electric go-karts: They don't smell as bad and can often attain higher speeds than models which use gasoline.
