- To set your privacy level in Internet Explorer, go to the "Tools" section on the top menu bar and select "Internet Options." A window will open containing all of the application's settings and preferences. Click on the "Privacy" tab at the top of the window to view your current personal security settings. The bar on the left side of the window will indicate the level your privacy settings are currently configured at. Move the privacy bar up to prevent more websites from accessing your personal information, and move the bar down to allow more sites through the security block. Giving websites more access will allow them to save your login and address information for future visits, while lowering access will keep that type of information private. Hit "Apply" once you have selected your desired privacy level to save the new settings.
- If there is a certain website that you do not want individuals on your computer to be able to visit, you can use the site blocking feature of Internet Explorer. In the "Privacy" tab of the "Internet Options" window, click on the button labeled "Sites." If any websites are currently being blocked, they will be listed under the "Managed Websites" section of the page. To block a new site, type the site's address into to field at the top of the window and then click "Block." If later you wish to remove the block on this website, highlight the address and click "Remove." Hit "OK" to save your updated privacy settings.
- When visiting certain websites, you may find yourself constantly being confronted with pop-up advertisements. Newer releases of Internet Explorer include a pop-up blocker feature that will prevent websites from displaying these advertisements. To enable this privacy option, go back to the "Privacy" tab in the "Internet Options" window. Look for the "Pop-up Blocker" section of the window and check the box next to "Turn on Pop-up Blocker." Click "OK" to save the settings.
