Winter Bass Fishing Lures Tips

Bass fishermen know that they are going to have a busy time when they head off on an excursion during the middle of summer when bass are hungry and go after almost any type of bait sent their way. However, when the calendar turns to late fall or early winter, it is a different story. The metabolism of the bass slows down dramatically when it is less than 50 degrees F. In order to have a shot at winter bass, you need the right lure.

    Supsending Jerkbait

  1. Note that this is almost always the number one lure for catching winter bass. The suspending jerkbait will sit motionless in the water and that is the key when trying to catch bass in the cold. They are not going to go after anything that moves, but the suspending jerkbait looks just like a minnow. If the bass observes it sitting motionless, it is hard for the bass to resist this attractive lure.
  2. Jig 'n Pig

  3. Keep in mind that the jig 'n pig works for bass in all seasons and that includes the winter months. This is especially true of a cold and murky lake. In fact, the darker the lake when it is 50 degrees F or less, jig 'n pig seems to draw the bass to it. The jig 'n pig lure looks just like crawfish and bass tend to go after it fairly forcefully even in winter months.
  4. Grub

  5. Know that the plastic grub is another lure that seems to bring bass in even during the cold weather. Use a 4-inch white plastic grub to get results whether the water is clear or murky. The grub also has great success in shallow or deep water and tends to give sleepy bass a jolt when they see it. Let your fishing line drop slowly because the bass tend to go after grub as its descending.
