- Create animal masks using foam for kid's parties. Choose an animal, farm or dinosaur theme for the party. Design matching masks for the children to wear once they arrive. Purchase foam sheets, feathers, pipe cleaners, glitter, glue and craft balls. Use a stencil to trace the mask design onto the foam sheet and cut-out, including holes for the eyes and mouth. Punch holes on the side and attach a string so the mask can be worn. Hand a mask to each guest as they arrive. Play games where party guests act like their animal or divide into teams based on the animal masks. These can double as party favors and go home with the guests.
- Design a witch mask for a Halloween party. Have the following supplies available: hot glue, paper plates, acrylic paints, small plastic funnels, red construction paper, a black permanent marker, electric tape and black raffia. Sketch a witch face on the back of the paper plate and cut holes for eyes and a mouth. Position the funnel for the nose and trace around. Cut slightly inside the traced line. Use glue to hold the funnel in place. Paint the face of the mask with green paint. Use construction paper to cut out warts, and a permanent marker to draw eyebrows and other facial features. Cut long pieces of raffia to use for hair and tie at one end. Use the electrical tape to hold the bundled raffia in place on the back of the plate near the top. Punch holes on both sides and use a string to hold the mask in place.
- Make a traditional Mardi Gras mask to celebrate the season. Purchase a black, plastic mask that covers the eyes and nose, feathers, glitter and jewels to use as decorations. Use hot glue to attach the decorations. Pick traditional Mardi Gras colors of gold, purple and green for the decorations. Mardi Gras designs are often elaborate and intricate, where more is better. Alter this project to create a mask for any costume party by using a variety of colors to decorate the mask.
