- Does your state have a deposit for cans and bottles? If it does, go around the neighborhood and collect cans and bottles to return for deposit money. You can also send out fliers giving local area residents a time and place where they can drop off their cans and bottles to help the community schools. You can even ask local area restaurants to donate any cans or bottles that they may have. (see Reference 1)
- Ask parents, teachers and members of the community to donate unwanted items to a rummage sale. Set up a time and place for people to drop off their items. Send out fliers telling the community where and when your rummage sale will be. You should also include information on the fliers about what the proceeds from the rummage sale will go toward. Spend a day evaluating and pricing items. Set up tables in the school's halls to display the items. Make sure that you display the items in an organized fashion, separating electronics, clothing items and toys to make it easier for community members to find items they may be interested in. (see Reference 1)
- Organize a fundraiser that will give school talent a chance to shine. Have classmates create art work, bake sweets or organize performances to help raise money. Send out fliers letting the community know where and when your event will be. Have different areas for the various talents. Consider charging a small admission fee for a talent show that can take place in the school gym. A bake sale can be held in the cafeteria while an art sale can be taking place in the halls. (see Reference 1)
- Organize a fun carnival for community members to attend. Rent an inflatable obstacle course or bounce house for children. Plan carnival-like games for children to play, and have small prizes for them to win. Ask parents and classmates to bake sweets or cook food for guests to purchase. You can even add a silent auction to your carnival by asking local area businesses to donate goods for auction. (see Reference 2)
