Tips to Get Rid of Eye Bag Puffiness

Eye bag puffiness can be caused by a number of things, from stress, to allergy and sinus problems. Eyes become sensitive when puffy and can turn very uncomfortable. There are quite a few ways to get rid of eye bag puffiness. Many of the items required can be found right in your home, and others will only cost a few dollars. For a more intense treatment, cosmetic filler injections are also available.

Cold Compress

  • Putting cold objects on the puffy eye area is an almost instant way to get rid of eye bag puffiness. Splash the face with a few doses of cold water, or soak a wash cloth in cold water, and place over the eyes for 10 minutes. Alternately, wrap the wash cloth in ice cubes, lie back, and place the cold wrap over the eyes for 10 minutes. Gel eye masks are also available at drugstores, and can be refrigerated and put over eyes when puffiness occurs.

Cold spoons also work great in getting rid of eye bag puffiness. Keep a few spoons in the refrigerator at all times, and when you begin to experience puffiness around the eyes, place the rounded under-side of the cold spoon against the puffy area for about five minutes. This will almost instantly reduce and heal puffy eye areas.

Cucumber and Potato Slices

  • Cucumber and potato slices work wonders for relieving eye bag puffiness. Both have soothing qualities that reduce inflammation and soothe the skin. Choose one vegetable, cut two slices about 1/4 inch thick per slice, and place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, or freezer for five minutes. Place the cool vegetable slices over the eyes, and let rest there for 10 to 15 minutes. The slices will work quickly to reduce puffiness around the eyes. Alternately, blend either vegetable into a smooth consistency, and place in the refrigerator or freezer to chill. Apply evenly over the puffy area, and let sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse face thoroughly with cool water afterward.

Egg White Mask

  • As egg whites dry on the skin, they tighten, thereby tightening the skin in the process. This will deplete puffiness in the eye area, and leave eyes looking fresh and rejuvenated. Whisk two egg whites, and add a drop of witch hazel. Apply to the puffy area of the eyes for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the egg whites feel stiff and dry. Rinse face with cool water mask is dry.

Tea Bags

  • Tea bags are another way to reduce eye puffiness. Brew a pot of green tea, and put the used tea bags in the refrigerator to chill. Place the tea bags over puffy eyes for 10 to 15 minutes, and puffiness will diminish almost immediately.

Cosmetic Filler Injections

  • Cosmetic filler injections are pricey but are a more long-term fix for people who experience puffy eye problems regularly. Collagen and botox injections keep puffy eyes and dark circles at bay for at least six months, so this may be an option to consider if you experience a lot of eye bag puffiness.

Change in Lifestyle

  • Lifestyle changes are also an important part of keeping puffy eyes at bay. Dehydration is a leading factor in eye bag puffiness, so be sure to drink eight 8-oz. glasses of water each day. The body also needs six to eight hours of sleep per night to function at its best, so be sure to get plenty of rest each night. Also reduce your daily intake of salt. Salt makes the body retain water, causing eye bag puffiness.
