From Quick Guide: Wall D?cor 101

    Sports

  1. Determine which individual sport or team will be highlighted. For a team theme, paint walls in team colors. Tone down flashy colors by creating a focal wall with one vibrant hue. Create phrases such as "we can," "play hard, get dirty" or "play from the heart" and stencil them on the wall. Opt for a self-adhesive silhouette sports wall mural or a multi-colored photographic mural of a famous player. Above the desk, affix a wall shelf. Display trophies and other sports memorabilia. For a finished look, frame team posters or shirts. Purchase a collage frame to mount sports trading cards.
  2. Travel

  3. Travel to another geographical location. Make it Paris, London, New York City or Malibu, to name a few. Decide on a vintage or modern travel theme. For vintage, paint the walls in sepia. Find vintage travel posters online and have them professionally framed. Affix vintage postcards for a wall border. Collect vintage souvenirs such as metal landmarks or paperweights to display on a wall shelf. For modern flair, paint walls stark white. Use black and one primary color for accents. Frame and hang an area map. Select posters of famous landmarks. Look for a replica metal street sign to hang. Purchase a time zone wall clock and set local and destination time. Stencil a greeting on the wall such as Moshi-Moshi or Buongiorno.
  4. Music and Art

  5. Compose the walls with melody and design. Tailor the room to a particular theme or era. Suggest jazz, rock, classical, world or country. Recommend big band, rockabilly or Roaring '20s. Paint walls creamy white to furnish a backdrop for art work and musical elements. For a rock theme, purchase vinyl records for borders. Frame LP covers in record frames or mount concert T-shirts. For punk, apply a prepasted brick wall as a focal point. Have your teen and friends autograph the wall. For vintage appeal, frame vintage music covers. Affix a wall plaque with a saying such as "where words fail music speaks."
  6. Abstract

  7. Provide your teen freedom of expression. Paint one wall with chalkboard paint, available in a various colors. Coordinate the paint on the other walls to match colors found in the wall art. Add "Wall Pops!" room decorating stick-ups for a splash of color and design. Affix a wall shelf. Place a magnetic sculpture such as X's and O's and other abstract hands-on sculptures for endless configurations.
