Recipes for a Family Gathering


Family gatherings are not as common as they used to be. People are too busy with work, school and children to take the time to visit with their family. When you do have a family gathering, you will want to make it enjoyable for everyone. One way to do this is to make sure you serve plenty of good tasting food for everyone to enjoy. Here are some tasty recipes for a family gathering.

Ravioli with Broccoli Cream Sauce

  • This recipe is a healthy twist on a traditional favorite. To make it, you will need: 1/4 cup of olive oil, 4 chopped garlic cloves, 1/4 cup of dried red pepper flakes, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 1/2 pounds of fresh broccoli, 3/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to taste and 1 15-oz. package of frozen cheese ravioli, cooked. In a medium saucepan, heat the oil and add the garlic, salt, pepper and red pepper. Saute the mixture until the garlic is lightly brown. Add the cream. Cook the mixture for about 20 minutes. Cook the broccoli in a separate pan until it is tender. Drain the broccoli and add it to the mixture. Add the Parmesan cheese. Pour the mixture over the cooked ravioli.

Corn Pudding

  • This recipe is easy and quick to make. To begin, you will need: 1 can of creamed corn, 1 can of drained whole kernel corn, 2 beaten eggs, 1/2 cup of melted butter, 1 8-oz. container of sour cream, 8.5 oz. of Jiffy corn bread mix and 1 tbsp. of sugar. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. Pour the mixture into a greased 9 x 13 pan or casserole dish. Bake the corn pudding in the oven for 45 minutes on 350 degrees.

Glazed Carrots

  • This is a sweet twist on a favorite side. Even if your kids do not like to eat carrots, they might after they try this recipe. For this recipe, you will need: 3 cups of sliced carrots, 1/4 cup of butter, 1/3 cup of maple syrup, 1/4 cup of chopped parsley and 1/2 tsp. of ginger. Boil the carrots for about 20 minutes, until tender. Drain. In a saucepan, cook the butter, syrup and ginger until the butter is completely melted. Pour the glaze over the carrots and garnish them with the parsley.

Green Bean Casserole

  • Many people enjoy green bean casserole. This is a tasty way to prepare green beans for the family. To make this popular casserole, you will need: 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup of milk, 1/8 tsp. of black pepper, 16 oz. of frozen cut cream beans and 1 2.8-oz. can of French fried onions. Thaw the green beans and rinse them thoroughly. Mix the soup, milk and pepper in a small bowl. Pour the mixture into a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish. Stir in the green beans and French fried onions. Bake the casserole in the oven, on 350 degrees, for about 35 minutes. Stir the casserole and top it with the remaining French fried onions. Bake for 5 more minutes.

Easy Cherry Crisp

  • To make this sweet desert, you will need: 1 stick of melted butter, 1 box of white cake mix, 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts, 1 can of cherry pie filling, 1 tsp. of almond extract and 2 tbsp. of lemon juice. Mix the cherries, almond extract and lemon juice in a 9-inch square casserole dish. In a bowl, mix the cake mix, butter and walnuts with a mixer on low speed. Sprinkle the mixture over the cherries. Bake the crisp in the oven, on 350 degrees, for 30 minutes.
