Holiday Grab Bag Ideas

Save

A grab bag is a great idea for people wanting to participate in a gift exchange, without the added expense of buying gifts for several people. This can be done a few different ways. Write names on a piece of paper for those participating, then putthe names in a hat and have everyone draw a name. Another option would be the male/female grab bag, where a female purchases a gift for a female, and a male purchases a gift for a male. This would require a more general gift purchase.

Gift Cards

  • Gift cards are an ideal gift if you aren't sure what to get, or for someone who is hard to buy for. Gift cards have become so common that you can even buy, for example, an Applebee's restaurant gift card at Walmart. Typically these come pre-loaded with an amount.

Other places that offer gift cards also give you the option of choosing how much you want to load on the card. Amounts range from $5 to $100 and more.

Body Products

  • While this option may be geared towards a female gift, they do make bath & body products for men. Most stores, especially around the holidays, have gift sets which can include body spray, lotion, shower gel, loofahs, etc. When choosing a set, choose a scent that is familiar, like vanilla. Of course always make sure to include a gift receipt in case the gift receiver has to return the gift for any reason.

Snacks & Sweets

  • Most people like candies, nuts, cookies, and other food products such as popcorn tins. Candies and cookies can be homemade, which is also another option for saving money.

Be careful when choosing nuts, as some people may be allergic to nuts; you may want to opt to stay away from candies that have nuts in the middle, or that have been exposed to nut products. When creating a homemade gift, wrap the food in decorative saran wrap, or place them in a festive tin.

An Assortment of Goodies

  • This is where you can get creative. Try putting together random miscellaneous things like stationery, mini calenders, small puzzles, small flashlights, pens or
picture frames. If you know the person you are buying for, you can ask people you know what types of things they like and go from there. If you do not know, they are bound to find something they like if you can include a small assortment.
