The female body has, on average, 20 square feet of skin. Since that is a sizable number, it comes as no surprise that many women have trouble keeping their skin in optimal condition. Although skin has excellent regenerative properties (almost 1,000 new skin layers are grown over the course of lifetime), it can also be damaged easily. If you're a woman who wants nice skin (and you should be), you need to know what constitutes proper skin care.

    Sun

  1. Tans might look fashionable, but tans only manifest because the skin has been damaged by ultraviolet rays. The sun is at its strongest in terms of radiation between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., so during that time you need to either stay out of the sun completely, or greatly minimize your exposure.

During the day you should always wear sunscreen. The higher the SPF(Sun Protection Factor) is, the more effective it will be for your skin. Apply the SPF about a half hour before you go out in the sun so the skin can absorb it. Tan safely by using a sunless tanning lotion. Or, get a spray tan.
  2. Facial Cleanser

  3. Remove impurities such as dirt, dead skin, and oil by using a facial cleanser twice a day, in the morning and at night. However, just because a facial cleanser costs more doesn't mean that it's better for the skin. Avoid facial cleansers with ingredients such as peppermint or eucalyptus, since those can be skin irritants. Instead, less expensive facial cleansers such as glycerin soaps can be more effective. Glycerin soaps cleanse the skin, but don't get rid of natural, healthy skin oils.
  4. Food and Drink

  5. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables is always good for the body, but it's also excellent for the skin. Fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, oranges, leafy greens, bell peppers, strawberries, and cantaloupe are especially high in vitamins A and C. These vitamins are antioxidants that naturally cleanse the skin.

Drinking regular milk can cause skin problems, namely acne breakouts, because of the natural hormones that cows produce in their milk. So, if you drink a lot of milk and notice that your complexion is not at its best, milk substitutes such as soy can improve your skin's appearance.
  6. Moisturizing

  7. A moisturizer is supposed to repair and maintain the moisture that skin should naturally generate. One way to tell if you really need a moisturizer is if your skin feels tight about twenty minutes after you bathe. Make sure that whatever moisturizer you choose has an SPF of 15 or more. If you have sensitive skin, make sure that the moisturizer is free from heavy dyes or perfumes.
  8. Aging Skin

  9. Combat aging skin by using a topical retinoid (unless you're pregnant or nursing). Retinoids contain Vitamin A, which increases collagen production and renews skin by getting rid of cells that clog pores.
