When you think of Valentine's Day, you probably think of the color pink, flowers, frills and hearts. If you want to give someone a present for the holiday, but he or she is more of a fan of sports than the cliché Valentine's Day packaging, consider putting his or her present in a sporty Valentine's box. It can be easy and inexpensive to create and requires very little time.

    Fabric-Covered Box

  1. If you or your child has a pair of unwanted sports-themed pajama pants, use the legs to wrap the box. Opt for pajama pants that are pink or red to correspond with the holiday. If you do not have a pair, visit your local thrift store. Choose an empty box with a lid to put the gift in. Using sharp scissors, cut the legs off the pants, then cut the fabric up the entire leg and open the fabric flat on the table. Using a foam brush, coat the lid of the box with a thin layer of Mod Podge and place the fabric on. Do the same with the bottom portion of the box until all visible parts of the box are covered with the fabric.
  2. Sports-Page Covered Box

  3. Choose the box you want the present to go in, and then wrap the entire box in the sports page from the newspaper. To make it look less plain, adhere a few small heart stickers all over the box on top of the newspaper wrapping.
  4. Paint a Box

  5. If you have artistic painting abilities, you can paint the gift box to your specifications. Purchase a plastic or wooden heart-shaped box at any craft store. You can paint on the sports equipment that corresponds to the recipient's favorite sport, for example, baseballs, footballs or hockey sticks. Give it ample time to dry, then using a foam brush, put a thin coat of Mod Podge over the painting.
  6. Red Box

  7. Purchase an empty red box, which you can find at almost any store around Valentine's Day. Also, purchase a red or white ribbon and a sports charm that represents the recipient's favorite sport, for example, a soccer ball charm for soccer players. Cut a small piece of ribbon that is thin enough to fit through the loop of the charm and is long enough that you can tie it in a knot. Put the gift in the box, wrap a large piece of ribbon around the box, then tie it in a knot on the top without yet wrapping it into a bow. Tie the small piece of ribbon with the charm around the base of the larger piece of ribbon; knot it well so it will not come off. After it is tight, tie the large piece of ribbon into a bow, and make sure that the charm shows as part of the packaging.
  8. Sports Hearts

  9. Purchase wrapping paper that has the logo of the recipient's favorite team on it. Wrap the gift so that the white part of the paper shows outward and the printed side is on the inside. Take another sheet of the wrapping paper and cut hearts out of it. Using a foam brush and Mod Podge, paste the hearts printed side up onto the already wrapped box.
