Introduce a child to the wonders of the animal kingdom with a decorative Noah's Ark themed nursery. Plentiful stuffed animals and soft, neutral colors make this theme ideal for young children of either gender.

    Background

  1. Walls provide the first, essential step toward a quality-themed nursery. There are solutions for every budget and circumstances. Even renters can decorate their walls without damaging the surface or violating their rental contract.

The simplest ways to decorate the walls in a nursery are with solid colors. Choose a neutral or gender-specific pastel for the background. For added theme, cut sponges into animal print shapes and track a contrasting color of paint across the wall. A blue background can be decorated with white clouds and rainbows.

Murals provide a beautiful way to decorate the wall with very little effort. Murals come in various sizes and shapes. Large ones can provide a panoramic scene, while small ones can be centered on a solid-colored wall.

Wallpaper is another simple way to decorate, and there are many patterns that incorporate animals.
  2. Furniture

  3. Generic furniture can become theme specific with the use of paint, stencils and stickers. Consider stenciling an ark or a series of animals across the railing of the crib, the front of the dresser, the top of a nightstand and so on.

As nurseries exist primarily for the use and enjoyment of the parents and not the child, it is important to create a setting that is comfortable for midnight feedings, diaper changes and soothing sessions. Incorporate soft lights and comfortable seating. Also add baby soothers, such as a bouncy seat or swing.
  4. Decorations

  5. Noah's Ark is a theme that lends itself to decoration easily. Consider purchasing or making large stuffed animals to place around the room. Add rocking horses and other decorative toys as well. A throw rug can be placed in the room for additional soft decoration.

On shelves around the room, place plastic animals in groups of two, such as elephants and giraffes. Also consider placing arks in various locations around the room. Stuffed animals can also be used for a softer, but usually more expensive, approach. On another shelf, collect books about animals and use ark-themed bookends to hold them together.

Mobiles can hang over the bed, swing and other play areas. These can contain a variety of animals and colors.

For more wall decoration, consider framing pictures of animals. These can be posters, magazine cutouts or actual photographs for variety. Use themed frames that include arks, animal tracks or others. A quilt also can be hung on the wall for a soft decoration. As a finishing touch, add one or more nightlights around the room. These can be in the shape of arks or various animals.
