Fun Things to Send to Friends

If you have a friend you want to let know you're thinking about him, a good idea might be to send him something nice. Beyond the traditional flowers, there are several things you can send a friend to brighten up his or her day. Use these tips to get some ideas. Customize any of these ideas to fit your friend's personality.

A Cookie Bouquet

  • A unique alternative to flowers: the cookie bouquet. Purchase attractive shapes from your cooking supply store and make a batch of sugar cookies (See Resources 1). Before you bake them, place a lollipop stick in each of them so that you can arrange them in a bouquet. Frost them as desired and let dry for a few hours. Purchase a small plant pot (about 6 to 8 inches tall) and a square piece of Styrofoam. Trim the Styrofoam to fit in the pot and place the sticks on the Styrofoam so they are standing straight up. Cover with a little bit of confetti or faux moss.

Singing Telegram

  • Purchase a singing telegram (see Resources 2) from a nationwide company or hire an actor from to do it for you. Write a charming song or use one that the two of you really like or get a kick out of. Make sure your friend is home when the telegram is being delivered (you can even go over to her house to keep her occupied).

Something They've Been Wanting

  • With the magic of the Internet, you can thank your friend for her friendship by logging onto her favorite website and sending her that coat she's been drooling over or the new game console game he's been wanting. Just point and click and make sure the address is in the receiving category.

Care Packages

  • If your friends are away or in the hospital, you can send them care packages to let them know you're thinking about them and/or hoping they'll get well soon. Include things like books, crayons, cookies and candy (if they can eat them), and scarves or mittens (making them yourself is an added bonus). You can also include small pieces of jewelry, toys and knickknacks from the dollar store and a picture framed photograph of the two of you or a group of your close friends.

  • JibJabs (see Resources 3) are an excellent thing to send to your friend via e-mail to cheer her up. Simply find pictures of you and your friend and follow the instructions on the website. After creating your JibJab, you will have a sendable card of your friend's head on an illustration doing a dance or singing a song.
