- The basis a snow good village is the buildings. You may already have a collection, but if you don't they are easy to get. Most department stores sell ceramic and wooden buildings for making snow villages in their Christmas aisles starting in around October. If it isn't the holidays, go to a Christmas all-year-round store in your town or online to purchase them. Don't forget to look for details that will make your village special, such as stop signs, park benches, people and fences. You can find these items in toy stores by the miniature-car section.
- Snow is the key element to a snow villages. Quilt batting is an instant blanket of snow for your village. Quilt batting is fluffy, white sheets of cotton, wool or polyester that can be purchased in yards at sewing supply and fabric stores. To add snow to the rooftops of your buildings sprinkle them a bit of talcum powder or baking soda.
- To set up your snow village, find a stable area on which to place it. A card table is a good choice. Cover the table with a white or festively colored tablecloth to hide the legs. Then, lay down your sheet of quilt batting. For hills, roll up some extra batting and place it underneath. Cut off any excess batting from around the edges of the table. Finally, start setting up your buildings and accessories. Add a road by placing strips of black felt or construction paper between the buildings. For extra realism, build up drifts of your fake snow on either side of the road and around objects. Add snowplow and cars purchased from a toy store.
