If you're creating a Valentine's Day bag to give with a gift, or for collecting valentine cards at school, think outside of the heart-shaped box. Grab some uncommon, unexpected materials to make your bag a work of art.

    Candy Wrapper Bag

  1. While Valentine's Day makes some people think of love, it also makes many of us think of candy. Collect a lot of your favorite candy wrappers--the amount depends on the size of the Valentine's bag you're decorating. Colorful choices include SweeTarts, Tootsie Rolls, chocolate bars, Hershey's Kisses foil wrappers (don't forget the little paper that sticks out of the top) and colorful cellophane wrappers from hard candies.

Flatten the wrappers as much as possible. Apply them to your bag in a patchwork collage using a glue stick or white craft glue. When the glue dries, attach a few candy hearts with romantic sayings.
  2. Romance Bag

  3. You can make this Valentine's bag for the cost of a few photocopies. Go to the library and select some paperback romance novels with dramatic cover images. Make enough copies of each book cover to fit your gift bag. You can use color copies or black-and-white.

At home, cut out the pictures and piece them together onto the bag, scrapbook-style. If you chose black-and-white images, use a pink or red colored pencil to fill in certain areas with color that will pop, such as the heroine's lips, flowers or dress. You could also scan the images on your computer and use photo editing software to shade in colors or add various artistic elements, then print them out. Another idea is to make comic book-style talk "bubbles" with romantic or funny sayings, then paste them above the images.
  4. Fluffy Tissue Paper Bag

  5. What's Valentine's Day without something pink and fluffy? This technique creates texture on your bag.

Tear or cut red and pink tissue paper into 1-inch-by-2-inch strips. Twist each strip to create a little bow and pinch it in the center. Use a glue gun to attach the pinched center onto the bag. Start in the center, creating a heart design in red, placing the tissue bows close together. After you complete the heart, fill in around it with the pink tissue.
