Whether you are celebrating a birthday or you just want to jazz up a children's party or get-together, adding a creative centerpiece to your table will add an air of fun to the occasion. Kid's centerpieces should use objects that children find interesting. Creating this type of centerpiece just takes a bit of imagination and some simple ideas to get you on your way.

    Candy Mountain

  1. To make a candy mountain, buy a cone-shaped floral foam form, gumdrops, toothpicks, lollipops in different colors, a shallow container like a plate and floral moss. Take the floral foam cone and put it on the shallow container flat-side down. Cover the form it with floral moss using floral pins. Insert the lollipops so that the "mountain" looks like it is covered with trees. Break the toothpicks in half and stick one in the side of each gumdrop. Stick them to the base of the mountain to look like rocks.
  2. Floating Island

  3. To make a floating island you need a round floral foam form, a clear bowl, a small toy boat, floral moss, a 1inch by 3 inch swatch of terry cloth and a drink umbrella. Fill the bowl half full with water. Cut the round floral foam in half and cover one piece with moss using floral pins. Push the umbrella in the center of the island of moss and put the terry cloth next to it for a beach blanket. Place the island in the center of the bowl. Add the boat to sail around the island. Add a few drops of blue food coloring to the water to make it ocean-colored.
  4. Funny Faces Centerpiece

  5. Gather dozen carnations or mums in various colors, your digital camera, a vase and several plastic floral card holder picks. Fill the vase with cool water and add the flowers. Cut the stems of the flowers so that they barely stand over the rim of the vase. Get your kids together and have them make their best silly faces. Take several pictures and print them out. Place each picture on a plastic floral card holder and stick them in the arrangement in random spots. Make sure that the pictures are nestled into the flowers, but are not covered by them.
