Waldorf Fruit Salad Recipe

Waldorf salad usually contains a combination of chopped apple, celery and walnuts, mixed with a creamy mayonnaise dressing. Although already heavy on the fruit, you can make Waldorf salad even fruitier by adding an assortment of additional flavors including orange, pears, grapes and even banana. Embellish the mayonnaise dressing with plain yogurt and honey -- it will have the familiar creamy texture, but the tangy yogurt complements the sweetness of the fruit.


  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons honey
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup chopped apple

  • 1 cup chopped pear

  • 1/2 cup chopped celery

  • 1/2 cup chopped, toasted walnuts

  • 1 banana, sliced

  • 1 cup grapes, halved

  • 1 seedless orange or tangerine, divided into segments


  • If the orange is large, cut the segments into bite-size pieces.


Prepare the dressing by whisking together the yogurt, mayonnaise, honey and salt and pepper. Mix in the lemon juice. Set aside.


  • Adjust the amount of honey you add according to your taste; if you prefer more sweet flavors and less tang, add more.

Place the chopped fruit, celery and walnuts into a large bowl. Toss with the dressing and serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to an hour.


Serve the salad over a bed of lettuce or in parfait cups topped with additional chopped walnuts. To sweeten the salad without extra honey, add 1/2 cup of raisins to the salad with the other fruit. A sprinkle of ground cinnamon or chopped mint leaves may also be added as garnish.


  • Any combination of seasonal fruits works. Strawberries, pineapple and kiwi make tasty additions to the salad.
