A good swimsuit competition begins with a good swimsuit body. Begin your fitness routine at least five months prior to the competition. In general, mix cardiovascular exercises--running, walking, biking, swimming, or aerobics--with weightlifting to build muscle and improve tone. Because the desired look for swimsuit competition is long and lean, consider incorporating Pilates or yoga into your workout routine.
At the same time, choose a balanced diet of whole grains, lean proteins (chicken, fish or turkey), vegetables and fruits. Starvation is not necessary; instead, aim for balance and a fresh, healthy look. -
The ideal time to purchase a swimsuit--from a pageant shop, off the rack or via the Internet--is eight to 10 weeks prior to the pageant, as a swimsuit can take this long to make should it need to be special ordered.
Ask yourself as you consider a swimsuit: Does it highlight my best figure attributes? Does the swimsuit cover the right places? Does the color suit my skin tone? Think about being under the bright lights: if it washes you out, it's not the right suit for you.
You may opt to alter a swimsuit. The legs can be cut higher to make the legs appear longer, a tie top can be converted into a hook-and-eye enclosure, and padding to the bust and bottom can be added for the best look. - Practice walking to music with your swimsuit, shoes and earrings on. Walk in front of a mirrored wall, such as that of a dance studio. Practice posing at angles that look best on you and don't forget to smile. Watch for excessively swinging arms or an uneven walk. Your walk should be smooth and the arms not distracting.

When it's pageant day, pack a few helpful items along with your swimsuit. Swimsuit "butt glue" or adhesive spray help prevent the keep the bottom from riding up. Double-sided tape can be used to keep your top in place. You may also pack panty liners or cotton stuffing to prevent a camel toe.
Another trick of the trade is using darker makeup to add definition to the abdomen or muscles lines to the arm and legs.
