Throwing a baby shower for a special mother-to-be is a thoughtful way to make her feel important and loved. There are different ways to host a baby shower to make it a memorable one. A Chinese-themed baby shower is one of the many ways to host a party whether the mother-to-be is of Chinese descent or not. It would be especially appropriate for a mother who is adopting a baby from China.

Purchase blank or printed Chinese-themed invitations or design one online. Another creative way to make a Chinese-themed invitation is by creating scroll invitations scribed in Chinese with English translations. Hire a Chinese calligrapher or use Chinese-themed baby shower invitations available online to make your invitations. Use red and gold colored papers symbolizing prosperity and good luck. Seal the scroll with a Chinese seal or emblem.

Purchase Chinese decorations from a party store or by going to Asian shops. If you live close to a Chinatown, you can purchase decorations for the party even at non-party stores. For example, buy Chinese baby clothes in different colors, place each one in a shadow box and hang them on the wall. Buy Chinese dolls and ceramics to decorate the tables. Hang parasols, paper fans, streamers and paper lantern lights on the walls and ceilings. Hang balls of silk or paper flowers on the chandeliers.

Add a laughing Buddha and bamboo table fountain to decorate the entryway. Create a flower arrangement made mostly of orchids. Use red and gold silks to decorate the top of the tables. Use bamboo place mats and table runners.
  4. Food and Drinks

  5. Chinese Food

Order assorted Chinese delicacies such as rice noodles, egg rolls, dumplings, pot stickers, steamed buns, chicken wings, shrimp balls, Shanghai-style pork chops served with steamed or fried rice. Serve them with hot or iced tea. Provide your guests with a set of chopsticks along with spoons and forks. Use blue and white china for plates and serving dishes.

Serve almond jelly, sesame balls, Chinese doughnuts, green tea ice cream and fortune cookies for dessert.
  6. Party Favors

  7. Chinese to-go boxes

One of the creative ways to wrap party favors is by using Chinese food to-go boxes. Nowadays you can buy these boxes in party stores in different colors and sizes. Place trinkets, key chains with Chinese logos, Chinese scented candles or miniature Chinese dolls inside these boxes and give them to the guests and the mother-to-be as souvenirs.
