Pills to Cure Body Acne
There are thousands of acne-treatment products on the market, from soaps to supplements. With so many types of medications to choose from, it can be difficult to choose a medication, much less a format for treating your acne. However, one method favored by dermatologists is the pill form. Pills allow the patient to administer a dose of medicine internally to treat acne problems at their source.

Supplements
-
Alternative health companies market a number of vitamins and supplements to help fight acne. These include zinc, vitamin A, and antioxidants such as Vitamin E and complex B vitamins. Zinc has an antibiotic affect on the body, attacking bacteria below the skin's surface. Vitamin A helps to promote healthy skin, while the antioxidant vitamins help to prevent cellular damage. When taking supplements and vitamins, some caution should be used to not take more than the daily recommended doses of A or zinc. Both of these vitamins are fat-soluble, so taking too much can be lethal.
Birth Control Pills
-
Acne is caused when oil glands are overstimulated by male hormones called androgens. Birth control pills contain progesterone, a hormone that blocks androgen production in women. By controlling the amount of androgens in a woman's body, the birth control pills help lower the instance of acne flare ups.
Antibiotics
-
One popular method dermatologists use to treat acne is to prescribe tetracycline antibiotic pills such as Doxycycline. Antibiotics treat acne flare ups by attacking the bacteria that attacks oil clogs in the pores. Antibiotics also decrease the irritating action of white blood cells that attack the infections and reduce the amount of fatty acids in oil glands, which also helps to reduce redness and inflammation.
Accutane
-
Accutane is often considered to be a last-resort medication used to treat severe cases of cycstic acne. Cycstic acne differs from common acne in that the infection spreads inward to the subdermal layers of the skin. It is more painful than common acne, and can leave deep scars. Accutane is a strong retinol drug, closely related to vitamin A. However, it can have severe side effects, including hair loss or birth defects.
