Sometimes a baby's skin is not always as soft as you might think. Newborns often develop a rash on their face otherwise known as baby acne. It usually develops around 3 to 4 weeks of age. There are many natural remedies for helping deal with this type of rash on your new baby.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to treat baby acne is to wash your baby's face at least once a day. Remember, a baby's skin is very sensitive, so make sure to use a mild soap--one made especially for babies. If you are not comfortable using soaps or the baby has very sensitive skin, use warm water and a soft wash cloth. Make sure the washcloth has not been laundered in harsh detergents for this can further irritate the baby's acne. You may also treat and prevent baby acne by washing your baby's face and mouth after feeding. If you are using formula, this can irritate the baby's acne, so it is important to keep her skin clean.
You can also help to clear up the baby acne with a little bit of honey and lemon juice. Mix 1 tsp of honey with 1 tsp of lemon juice in a small bowel or cup. Take a cotton swab and rub it on the affected area of the baby's face. Be sure to keep it out of the baby's mouth and eyes. Keep it on the face for about 30 minutes and then with a warm washcloth gently wipe the face and area you treated. Make sure you use a soft washcloth that has not been laundered with harsh detergents.
Believe it or not, breast milk can help to clear up baby acne. Just apply a few drops to the effected area and it will usually help to clear up the baby's face. This is perhaps the most natural way to cure baby acne.
