Create raised or indented images on handmade invitations with a dry embossing technique. Dampen the card stock slightly with a wet cloth and then press the rubber stamp into the damp fibers, creating an indented image. Press the stamp on the back of the card stock to create a raised image on the front, or press the stamp on the front to indent the image. You can highlight the embossed image with chalk, watercolor paint, acrylic paint or ink.
Consider stamping words such as "You're Invited" or "Please Join Us" next to an image representing the type of event you're hosting. For example, use a house stamp for housewarming invitations, or a wedding bell stamp for wedding shower invitations. - Make handmade thank you cards by heat-embossing stamped images onto card stock. Find stamps with images related to your sentiment for the front of the card, such as a graduation hat or a set of wedding rings, and stamp the image using slow-drying ink. Sprinkle embossing powder over the wet ink. Lift the card and gently tap it over a piece of paper or a plastic container to remove and save the excess powder. Use a heat gun to apply low heat to the powder so the granules melt together, forming a raised image. You can include words of thanks alongside the embossed image, or write your name and the date you graduated or wed.

Handmade cards are a thoughtful way to drop a line to a friend or include a note with a gift. Select rubber stamps with inspirational words and phrases or images that reflect your lifestyle or sentiment. For example, cover the front of your card with words such as "Dream," "Laugh" or "Love," or find a stamped phrase that speaks to your feelings.
If you love to garden, stamp flower images to form a bouquet or plant in a hand-drawn pot.
You can use colorful ink sprinkled with glitter and embellish the card by gluing on ribbons, flat-backed rhinestones or pressed flowers.
