Mortal Kombat Deception, released in 2004 for Playstation 2 and the original Xbox, continues the series' long-standing tradition of hyper-violent, arcade-style one-on-one fighting gameplay. There were a number of new modes introduced in this version of Mortal Kombat to extend replayability, such as Konquest mode, Chess Mode and a Puzzle Kombat. Use these helpful hints to give yourself an advantage in all of the different ways to play.

    Konquest Mode Hints

  1. Konquest mode introduces an open-world element that challenges the player with a variety of fetch missions interspersed with fighting sequences using the traditional engine. Checking every single house and side area in this mode for treasure chests can be tedious, but players can access new costumes, new arenas, artwork and further content through these chests. Certain chests are only available during certain periods of the day, so meditating will speed up the day/night cycle, allowing previously invisible chests to be seen. While it might seem cruel, killing NPC's that offer quest items is an alternative to many of the fetch missions.
  2. Arcade Mode Hints and Tips

  3. There are a number of new additions that were introduced to the fighting formula in this iteration, including the ability to knock opponents into new areas of some levels and improved parrying and guard counters. Using the uppercut, a classic Mortal Kombat move, will allow players to launch opponents into new areas, causing extra damage. Sometimes, these additional areas are bottomless caverns with deadly spikes, allowing the player to get kills early in the match. Mastering parry counters will allow you to stun your opponent, giving you the opportunity to have an open chance for attack.
  4. Chess & Puzzle Modes

  5. Chess mode combines the general strategies and rules of chess with the fighting action of Mortal Kombat. Stronger pieces, such as the Queen or Knights will have more health and power, but upon entering combat, either opponent has the opportunity to win, regardless of the strength of their piece. Just remember that any health taken away will stay for the remainder of the battle, allowing opponents to slowly chip away at the strength of your more powerful pieces.

Puzzle mode is similar to other brick dropping puzzle games, such as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Puzzle Machine, Tetris, Super Street Fighter II Puzzle, or Puyo Pop. Matching up similar colored blocks and dropping on the Mortal Kombat piece will cause all of the touching blocks to stack up on your opponent's playing area. Learning the different character's special moves is another important strategy to consider. For instance, Sub-Zero can freeze the opponent's screen so they can't see the color of their blocks.
