Pokemon Birthday Party Ideas

Pokemon makes a great theme party for kids who love the show or video games. These cute little "pocket monsters" make for great decorations, and there are a lot of activities that you can draw from the Pokemon world. You might even tell your guests to dress up as their favorite trainers as they join together for a day of Pokemon challenges.

Invitations

  • For simple invitations, get some blank cards. Decorate the front with Pokemon stickers or images printed from the Internet. Write, "You've Been Challenged to a Battle!" across the front. Inside the card, give the party information. Tell your guests to bring their Pokemon trading cards for a game.

Decorations

  • Hang posters and cardboard cut-outs of Pokemon characters around the room. Hang a sign on the front door that says, "Welcome to the Battle Dome!" If you have any Pokemon stuffed animals, set them out around the room.

Purchase Pokemon theme table settings from a party store. Make a cluster of red and white balloons, and tie them to a weight as a centerpiece.

Activities

  • Print out a stack of Pokemon coloring pages from the Internet. As your guests arrive, have a table set up with the coloring pages and crayons or markers so they can keep themselves busy.

Have a Pokemon tournament. Split the children up into teams to play the Pokemon trading card game. See if you can collect extra decks from friends, or purchase some at the store for any children who might not have their own. Keep score on a large dry erase marker board. Divide the children into teams of two and allow them to battle. The losers of round one are eliminated, and team up the winners for another round. Keep going until you have a champion. Give out individual cards as a consolation prize, booster packs to finalists, and a booster kit or new deck to the champ.

Have a scavenger hunt to capture Pokemon. Hide small Pokeballs filled with miniature Pokemon figures around the house or yard. Give kids a checklist with five specific Pokemon they have to find, then send them to search. Tell them they're not allowed to take any Pokemon not on their list, so if they find one they have to put it back. The first one to catch all their assigned Pokemon is the winner.

Cake

  • Instead of a whole cake, make cup cakes decorated like pokeballs. Take some vanilla icing and separate it in half. Tint one half of it red. Frost half the cupcakes white, and half red. Use chocolate frosting in a baker's bag to pipe a chocolate line down the center, dividing the two colors. Place a white gumball in the center of the cupcake for the clasp.
