Hair, much like the rest of body, responds to what you consume. There are certain vitamins and minerals the follicle needs that can't be provided by any pricey shampoos or conditioners--or at least not nearly as effectively as eating the right foods. Vitamin and mineral supplements are undoubtedly helpful and more convenient to consume, but the amounts of these are hard to regulate with what you eat, especially when trying to maintain straight hair. It's a delicate balance between diet and daily life.

Vitamin B for support

...

It's essential to have a protein-rich diet when trying to maintain healthy straight hair with all the amino and fatty acids. These provide nourishment for the hair so that it is thick and full, not brittle and wiry, and will hang straight down. Red meats and dairy are best for this, as they are high in vitamin B and iron and reinforce hair follicles, giving the base of the hair strength and support.

Vitamins A and D for Health

...

The hair itself needs to be healthy and thick so that it can hang natural and straight. Foods such as eggs, chicken, liver, cottage cheese, butter and carrots are the best for this vitamin. Fatty acids--like the ones in oily fish or flaxseed or avocados--should also be consumed to give your hair a bit more weight, adding to its strength and ability to hang straight. Try to eat at least four servings of these types of food per week.

Silica for Strength

Silica is a trace mineral only found in certain foods, but it is incredibly important to the strength of straight hair so that it can maintain its length and straightness and not fall out easily. Unfortunately, only a few organic foods have large amounts of it, such as rice, asparagus, sunflower seeds and green, leafy vegetables. If a steady, healthful diet of these vitamins and minerals in organic foods is consumed, beautiful, straight and healthy hair will be natural and easy to maintain, as opposed to created by hours in front of a mirror.
