Nail fungus is caused by a fungus, yeast, or even mold, getting under the nail bed. It can turn your nails yellow and make them chip and break. Whether you get it on your fingernails or toenails, there are treatments to help you get rid of that unpleasant fungus, and gain back some confidence in letting people see your fingers and toes.

    Medications

  1. Medications to treat nail fungus include prescription drugs that may be taken orally, but may not work to treat the fungus well enough to get rid of it for good. Oral fungus medications may also have more side effects than some of the other choices.
There are also topical medications, such as anti-fungal lacquers and over-the-counter lotions or creams, both of which may be used along with the oral medication. None of the available medications have a 100% success rate, and may need to be repeated for new outbreaks.
  2. Home Remedies

  3. There are techniques for getting rid of nail fungus using some things that are commonly found in many homes. Listerine mouthwash may be used to soak your nails to kill the fungus.
Another home remedy to use is apple cider vinegar. You can soak the nails in a mixture of equal amounts of vinegar and water for about 20 minutes a day, and then drying the nails completely. Repeat daily until the fungus is gone.
Undiluted Tea tree oil, or two drops Oregano oil diluted with one teaspoon olive oil and applied to the nail each day, will kill the fungus.
  4. Life Style Changes

  5. One thing that may make a big difference in getting rid of nail fungus is making changes in the diet. Eating foods that contain good bacteria, such as yogurt, and cutting back on simple carbohydrates such as baked goods, sugar, and sweets, may change your body chemistry and get rid of nail fungus and prevent it from recurring.
Keeping your feet dry and wearing cotton socks, as well as making sure that you wear swimming shoes or shower shoes in public places like showers, locker rooms, and public pools, will help prevent spreading or catching a nail fungus.
