Although sometimes overlooked, headbands are one accessory you can use to change or update your look. Headbands are trendy and versatile. They allow you to change your look in just a few moments, without mess or fuss. For women, they are one accessory for those moments that you are frustrated with your hair, and you don't know how to style it. Here are a few inexpensive ways you can create your own headbands.

    Rubber Bands

  1. Something as simple as a rubber band can be used as a headband. Simply find a rubber band that is a large size, and secure the band to the front of your hair. The nice thing about using a rubber band, is you can also use the rubber band to secure a ponytail by wrapping it several more times around your ponytail. Each change in your look only takes a couple of minutes, and can be performed on the go.
  2. Spruce Up Existing Headbands

  3. There are so many great ideas for sprucing up existing headbands to re-invent them. Look around your home for buttons, pieces of fabric or colorful ribbon. Using a hot glue gun, secure a couple of colorful items, like ribbon or a button. Using a piece of colorful fabric, you can re-cover your existing headbands. This is a way to create a designer headband. Find a scarf from your favorite designer, and wrap headbands in the fabric.
  4. Use Ribbon to Create Your Headband

  5. You can use any ribbon from your latest craft project to create a dramatic look by simply wrapping ribbon around your head using a headband technique. This look can be as simplistic or dramatic as you would like. For a simple look, cut a piece of ribbon that is long enough to use as a headband and tie a simple bow or pin the ends. Then place the ribbon as your headband. If you would like a more complex look, wrap the ribbon several different times around your head at different angles until you achieve your desired look.
  6. Headbands in Disguise

  7. You can get the benefits of using a headband without the look of a headband. By using your existing headbands, you can purchase a hairpiece that is similar to your own hair color. Cover your headband using the hairpiece and you have a headband that looks just like your own hair. By braiding some of the hairpiece, you can easily hot glue the strands to your headband for a complex look, without any of the difficult styling.
  8. Bandanas

  9. Bandanas make good headbands. Take any of your favorite bandanas, roll or fold them into a long stripe, secure them to your head by tying the ends together. Although this look may not be a glamorous look, it's a wonderful way to spruce up any look for running around town or lounging at home.
