Whether you're planning a formal wedding by the sea or a simple beach ceremony, there's a fun and elegant way to invite your guests. The only limit to beach wedding invitations is your imagination; your options range from sending a dramatic message in a bottle to having custom artwork created. If you want more traditional wedding invitations, they are easy to customize for a beach wedding by adding small touches of beach flair.

    Message in a Bottle

  1. A popular way of inviting guests to luaus, the message in a bottle invitation is made more elegant for a wedding by using glass bottles instead of plastic. For inexpensive bottles, check with laboratory and beauty supply companies; they often sell small bottles with cork stoppers in bulk. Add a little beach sand and a few small shells to the bottom of the bottle, tie an organza ribbon around the neck, and use a wax seal on top of the cork to make the invitation extra special. Roll the invitation itself up and put it in the bottle. Invitations can be hand delivered or packed in small boxes for delivery.
  2. Treasures From the Sea

  3. For a more traditional wedding invitation, add a treasure from the beach or ocean to a standard invitation. Attach small shells, wire-wrapped sea glass or mini-starfish to the invitation with ribbon. For a more elegant look, wrap a large ribbon around the center of the invitation, and attach a shell, starfish or other ocean treasure to the center of the ribbon. For a more casual invitation, use raffia instead of ribbon.
  4. Custom Artwork

  5. Custom artwork, such as a watercolor painting of the beach where you are getting married, is ideal for a beach wedding. Many printing companies offer services that will allow you to have any sort of background image printed behind the wording on your invitation. Any theme can be incorporated, from a light-hearted pair of dolphins or whimsical seahorses to beautiful hibiscus flowers and shells.

The custom artwork can also be highlighted by using invitations with unusual shapes, such as those shaped like shells or that have cutouts on the front to highlight the artwork.
