Scrapbooking is an excellent way to keep your memories so you can share them with family and friends. Since it is your scrapbook, there are no wrong decisions.

From Quick Guide: Basics of Military Bases

    Start With Your Paper

  1. Whether you are designing an entire military book, or just a page, you can find military-themed books and paper at retailers. You can use this service-specific paper to start your personalized design. If you do not want to go with pre-themed paper, you can create your own style. You can do this by layering, cutting and using vellum and whatever else you want to do.

Another issue to consider is how many people you are are trying to recognize in the book. Are you doing this for just one military member or for a group of them? Are there different branches of the service that you want to recognize? You can capture each different service member or branch by doing a specific page for each person. You can also make the army page green and the navy page blue.
  2. Picking Out Your Pictures

  3. When you are creating a military-themed scrapbook, you need to consider if you are going to keep it strictly military or include photographs of the service member in civilian clothes, too. Once you know what you want to include, you can start laying out your photographs.

Start laying out your photographs before you start assembling your pages, because you can determine how many photographs you want to use and where you want to put them before any gluing or cutting. It is always better to determine what you want to do with your pictures before you start cutting. This is especially important if you are using old photographs of which you may have only one copy.
  4. Remember to Add the Details

  5. When you are putting together your scrapbook, remember to add text so you remember what was going on in the photographs. If you are doing a military scrapbook of someone who has passed away, you may want to include extra photographs and text.

You can include copies of military documents, such as the DD 214, or discharge from military service form. Another idea is to include copies of awards and promotions. Try to include dates and locations. Also, if the family traveled often due to military service, you may want to include details of what bases you were stationed at and for how long.
