Slumber Party Games & Ideas
Slumber parties are a popular way for girls to celebrate birthdays. Slumber parties can also be held for other events such the Fourth of July or the last day of school. When hosting a slumber party, it is important to be prepared with games to entertain the girls as well as snacks, prizes and a few take-home items as small keepsakes from the girls' fun night together.

Piggly Wiggly
-
Piggly Wiggly is a slumber party favorite for young girls. One player is chosen to be "it" and must leave the room and count slowly to ten. The other girls switch sleeping bags and hide inside so they are completely covered. When "it" enters the room, she sits on a sleeping bag and calls out "Piggly Wiggly," to which the person in the sleeping bag replies "Oink! Oink!" The girl who is "it" guesses who is inside the sleeping bag. If they are correct, that person becomes "it." If not, then the guesser must leave the room again and play another round until she guesses correctly.
Sleeping Beauty
-
Sleeping Beauty is a fun game for girls of any age. The player selected to be Sleeping Beauty must lay down flat on the floor and pretend to be asleep. The other girls will tell jokes or talk to her, trying to make her laugh or smile. If Sleeping Beauty can keep from reacting for a whole minute, she wins a prize for that round. Continue until each girl has played Sleeping Beauty at least once. Have a stash of small prizes on hand to award to girls who win this game.
Glowing Scavenger Hunt
-
Before the slumber party, purchase a cheap flashlight from the dollar store for each girl. Use paint or markers to write the guest's name on her flashlight. Purchase a variety of glow in the dark items as well. Place these under a strong lamp for several hours just before the party to make sure they will glow brightly. Hide the items while the girls are otherwise occupied in another area. Hand out the flashlights just before your scavenger hunt. Then turn off the lights and let the girls search out the glow in the dark items. Make sure the house is clear of any items that can be tripped over when playing this game, or play outside after dark if you have a large backyard.
Snacks and Treats
-
Since many slumber parties will last long after all the games have been played, be prepared with some snacks and movies to keep the girls occupied until they fall asleep. Avoid sugary items that will keep them awake and instead provide a pizza bar where they can make their own mini pizza, or plain popcorn with a variety of flavorings. Keep the fridge stocked with bottled water and caffeine free soda, or provide each girl with her own cup or water bottle at the beginning of the party to refill as needed from jugs or 2 liters.
