- Take the at-home magic show to a new level. Invite your child's friends over for a magical party, letting them know on the invitations that your child will be performing. They may read, for example, "Come see Alex the Great." Set up an area where guests can sit in front of a stage. Create a stage by hanging a black or dark blue sheet from the ceiling with thumbtacks, and cover it with foil stars. Place a small table in front of the stage where your child can perform his tricks. Throw a dark sheet over the table. Several days or weeks before the party, take your child to a party supply store or magic store to buy a magic kit for kids. Let him practice and master a few of the tricks. The day of the magic show, dress your child in a suit or other special outfit for his opening act.
- Harry Potter is a magic-wielding character kids can relate to. Harry attends Hogwarts Academy, a school that teaches children magic. Have a Hogwarts theme at your magical party for children. Send out invitations that read, "You've been accepted at Hogwarts Academy." Ask guests to come dressed as their favorite wizards. When kids arrive, assign them to Hogwarts teams, such as Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Set up a treasure hunt to play Quidditch. Decorate your home with cheap thrift-store Victorian-style picture frames. Set out lots of candles, and hang signs that read "Hogwarts" on doors and walls.
- Transform your home into a magical kingdom for a day. Kids can attend this party dressed as kings or queens. Make cardboard castle cutouts to place around your party area. Hire a balloon artist to help entertain children in your magical kingdom. Play royal magic games, such as unicorn races in which kids pretend to ride on stuffed unicorns. Let kids walk into the party on a magical red carpet. Give all the kids pretty magic wands made of ribbons and stars on sticks as favors. Serve a castle cake with sparkly sugar on it.
