- Liar's Dice requires at least two players and can be played by up to five players. For each player you will need five dice and a cup to roll the dice with. The cup should be made of a material that is not transparent as players do not want others to see their dice after they roll them. Liar's Dice can be played on the floor, but playing it at a table with a chair for each player will be much more comfortable.
- At the start of each round, each of the players roll their dice and cover them with the cup. Each player is only allowed to look at the dice under her own cup. The first player then can make a bid. To bid, a player announces a certain number of dice with a specific number that he thinks were rolled at the table. As an example, a player could say "four ones." This means he believes that, among all of the players at the table, there are at least four dice with a one face up on the die. Players continue bidding by either increasing the number of pips face up or the number of dice bid. In this example, for a higher bid, a player would have to bid either four of two's through sixes, or five or more of any number. If a player does not wish to bid, she may challenge the previous bid.
- The bid a player makes might be correct, or it might be incorrect with fewer dice than he claimed showing the number that he bid. If on a player's turn she feels that the player before her is incorrect, she can "challenge." When a challenge is made, each player shows his dice. The number of dice with the face value of the bid are then tallied. If there are at least as many dice with the face value that was bid, the challenger loses the round. If there are fewer dice with the face value that was bid, the bidder loses the round.
- In Liar's Dice, your dice represent your ability to stay in the game. When a player loses a round, she must remove one of her dice from play. This happens each time there is a challenge, as either the bidder or the challenger loses a die. The next round then starts. The game continues until there is only one player remaining with any dice left. That player is the winner of Liar's Dice.
