Natural Treatment for an Asthma Attackthumbnail
Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease in which the airways become inflamed and narrowed, causing shortness of breath and wheezing. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, asthma affects people of all ages, but it most often starts in childhood. In the United States, more than 22 million people are known to have asthma, nearly 6 million of whom are children (see reference 3).

    1. Honey

      • Honey is considered one of nature's most perfect foods. It is high in nutrients and provides relief for asthma. When a person with asthma begins to have an attack, place a jar of honey under his nose. Within seconds the person should begin to breathe easier. Honey can also be taken by mouth. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey per glass of water and drink this three times per day for asthma-attack prevention.

      Indian Tobacco

      • Many doctors recommend the use of Indian yobacco, also known as lobelia, for relief of asthma. Mix three parts of Indian tobacco with one part of red or cayenne pepper. Mix the powder with water to form a thin liquid. At the onset of an attack, take 20 drops of the mixture by mouth. Repeat every 30 minutes until you have taken three or four doses.

      Garlic Cloves

      • Garlic cloves can be boiled in 30 grams of milk and drank every day for a good preventive measure against asthma. Garlic cloves also work well when placed in hot ginger tea and taken two times per days, once in the morning and once in the evening. Garlic helps keep the passageways open and ease inflammation.

      Steam

      • Hot steam works well to open passageways. Many things can be mixed in with water to aide in an asthma attack. One treatment is to have the person breathe in steam with caraway seeds mixed in. This can provide instant relief for an attack. Try taking a hot shower to relieve congestion. Make sure the shower is hot enough so that the person begins to perspire; this will open the airways and stimulate the skin.
