If you're a bigger fan of spontaneity than tradition, you may have considered getting married in Vegas. Las Vegas locals may be familiar with the resources needed to make a Vegas wedding go off without a hitch. If you're an out-of-towner, there are a few things you should keep in mind when planning your fun Vegas wedding. Planning a Las Vegas wedding is made easier with by taking care of a few steps before you head to the chapel.

    Plan Ahead and Come Prepared

  1. A little preliminary planning won't take away from the fun spontaneity of a Vegas wedding. If you want some of the conventional wedding features like flowers, a formal gown, tuxedos or rings, you will probably want to bring these with you to Vegas. If a formal hairstyle is important to you, call ahead to find a hairstylist who can help you on your big day. You will also need to bring witnesses. A Vegas wedding is fun for the couple, but think about how much more fun you could have with your closest friends and family there to cheer you on and even help you hit up the casinos afterward.
  2. Bring Any Legal Documents

  3. There is no legal waiting period for getting a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada, where Las Vegas is located. However, you may need to bring a few legal documents with you to make sure your wedding is official and legitimate. You will need to bring an official state-issued ID and possibly even your social security card with you as well. If you or your fiancee is from out of the country, you will need to file to have a marriage certificate issued from an Apostille of the Nevada Secretary of State. If an individual is getting married and has a previous divorce, the divorced person will have to bring a legal divorce decree as well. For anyone under 18 that wants to get married, a parent or guardian must be present to give consent and pay the court fees.
  4. Stay in the Right Mindset

  5. Las Vegas is a city famous for a good time--that's why many people flock there to gamble, party and drink. The same goes for those couples who want to make their wedding a day they will never forget. However, it's important to also make sure the wedding is a day you'll never regret, either. Whether your officiant is a licensed minister or an Elvis impersonator, it is generally considered disrespectful and inappropriate to be inebriated during the ceremony. You might even try to keep the raucous celebrations of the reception or after party in check---after all, nothing spoils a honeymoon more than the sober realization that the wedding ring was lost in a game of blackjack.
