It is a rather satisfying experience to mix and match fabrics for your bedroom. Start by choosing a multi-color pattern that really speaks to your design taste. Pull out one of its neutral colors and select a textured solid for this color. Then, take this textured solid-colored fabric and coordinate that independently with another pattern within the same color family. Coordinate two more solid colors from these patterns. Try to find these fabrics in silky, shimmering or plush textures.
Take your time to look at the fabrics to decide which ones will work well for the windows, the bedspread, and which ones will provide the most accent as pillows. Prior to purchasing your fabrics, take complete measurements, especially for the window dressings, the comforter and the dust ruffle. - Decide whether your curtains will be just below the window sill, or whether your drapes will hang down to the floor. Decide on the rod and curtain style of your window dressings. You can slide curtains over a standard curtain frame, or you may opt for other styles including tabs and drapery hooks that require more substantial curtain rods.

Measure the width and length of your existing comforter. Depending on its size and the width of your fabric, you may need to attach a strip of fabric to complete the comforter's width. Cut two layers of fabric, either of the same fabric or two complementing fabrics, each to cover both sides of the comforter. The comforter pieces are then sewn together with right sides facing in, leaving one side partially sewn. Then it is turned right side out and filled with batting to make it thick and soft. You can even cover your existing comforter to give it new life in your transformed bedroom space.
Decide whether your bed skirt will have ruffles or not. Measure the width and length of your mattress surface to cut the piece that the skirt fabric is attached to. This part will be inserted between the mattress and box spring to hold the skirt in place.
The next measurements include how low you want your bed skirt to hang, as well as how wide to make it for possible ruffling. Make your cut, adding two inches for seam allowances. Hem the bottom edge of your bed skirt, connect the two ends by sewing together on the wrong sides, then attach this piece to the bed skirt base. Upon completion, slide the bed skirt onto the box spring. - Accent your bedroom with pillows. Make pillow shams for the bed, throw pillows and seat cushions. Use different textures and colors, including fabric left over from the windows and comforter. All of your bedroom sewing will add comfort, elegance and style to your bedroom retreat.
