      • Consider how much verve is introduce in even the simplest costume accents. A military hat can make a bold change in appearance without becoming overly obtrusive to the rest of your ensemble. For those interested in being in costume without risking a loss of comfort, this could be the way to go. If the party ends early, it's easy to doff the old cap and suddenly be a civilian. Also, it avoids unnecessary cost. Army and Navy stores will be an excellent place to go to look for these authentic pieces. Often, hats can be purchased for under $20.

      Coats

      • Check out the dress uniform coats of the various services. While the regular green army jacket might provide a certain rank and file look, it pays off to consider some of the dress blue varieties that are part of both the Army and the Marine Corps, though the Marines' dress blue uniform is generally more common. Plus, the coat worn by Marines features a scarlet and cobalt blue color combination that stands out in a crowd. To bring even greater emphasis to a military coat, consider purchasing some unit patches to sew onto the sleeves and breast pockets of the coat. Also, keep in mind that these coats are available in both male and female cuts, so choose the coat in accordance with how tailored the ensemble should be. Many of these coats are available inexpensively at dry cleaners located near military bases. The coats can be bought at a fraction of the price because of service members who fail to pay their dry cleaning bills on time.

      Footwear

      • Lacing up a pair of spit and polished combat boots can be another distinctive aspect of your Army costume. Like hats, authentic boot issue can be most easily bought at Army and Navy stores. When buying this items, remember to also pick up proper shoe shining polish and equipment, to include a quality boot brush. These leather boots are capable of regular wear and heavy use; however, they need regular maintenance and attention or they will blister and crack, resulting not only in unsightly appearance, but functional inferiority.
