Fund raising can be a fun, time-consuming and lucrative task for any non-profit group. The key to a successful benefit is having creative and innovative fund-raising ideas. Think outside the box when it comes time to organize your next event, throwing out the "been done too many times" ideas.

    Flamingos

  1. Put your entire community on notice that there is going to be a flamingo migration in your area with articles in your newspapers, flyers and word of mouth. Explain in your press releases that flamingos might be taking up residence in their yards and in front of their businesses. Quote the price of having the flamingos land in someone's yard and the cost of removal (which is always negotiable). Remind them that "flamingo insurance" is also available to those who do not want flamingos in their yards. Include the organization's phone number, so that people can contact you to send flamingos to their friends, family and neighbors. As the calls start coming in, place the flamingos in the yard requested. Remember to include information about your organization and how others can send flamingos as well.
  2. Contests

  3. Make money for your organization by having contests. Crisis pregnancy centers can have "Pretty Baby Contests" and animal shelters can have "Ugly Dog Contests." Libraries can have "The Best Book Contest." Art museums can have the "Prettiest Painting Contest." Donating money is how people cast their votes. Whoever or whatever has the most money is the contest winner.
  4. Read-A-Thons

  5. Have a read-a-thon for your non-profit group. This works well for libraries, schools and other educational or youth organizations. Find sponsors to donate to your non-profit group for each book the participants read. Offer prizes to the reader who brings in the most money as well as to the person who reads the most books.
  6. Car Washes

  7. Having a car wash is a great, old-fashioned and fun way to earn money for your non-profit group. Have business or individuals donate the supplies. Reserve a venue and advertise the date, time and reason for the car wash. Include a table at your car wash with information about your organization. Wash the cars and watch the money pour in.
