The Best Ways to Grill a Steak
Steaks are a cut of beef that comes from a cow. The type of steak depends on the location it was taken from the cow. For example, chuck steak comes from the upper body of the cow just next to its neck, while the round steak comes from the back rear of the cow. There are many ways to cook a steak, but steaks taste especially good when they have been cooked on a grill.
Preparation
-
If you want a great steak, you need to take some time to prepare it. First, you will want to choose a steak. You need make sure the steak is no more than 1 1/2 inches thick. Any more than this and the steak could end up burnt on the outside and rare on the inside. You also need to preheat your grill. It is best not to put your steaks on the grill until it is already hot. You also need to grease the grill so that the steaks don't stick to it. You can do this simply by brushing on a little oil.
Marinades
-
You need to add some flavor to your steak for it to become one of the best steaks you have ever had. There are a variety of marinades out there. If you want a wet marinade, you could choose something like mesquite, but you will need to marinate it ahead of time. Follow the directions on the packet and place the marinating steak in the fridge for a few hours. If, however, you have already heated up your grill, you can give your steak a quick dry marinade. Make a rub out of some oil and your favorite spices. Then rub the mixture on all sides of the steak. You can then place it on the grill without waiting.
Meat Thermometer
-
If you want to grill the perfect steak, you need a meat thermometer. This will tell you without a doubt that the steak has reached the temperature you are looking for. For example, if you like eating rare steaks, you would take the steak off the grill when the thermometer reads 150 degrees Fahrenheit. A medium steak would read 160 degrees F, while a well done steak would need to reach a temperature of 170 degrees F. Guessing at this will most likely lead to disappointment in the finished product. Flip your steaks about every four minutes, being careful to check the steak's internal temperature. When the temperature is reached, remove the steak from the grill and wait 15 minutes to carve so that the juices have time to settle.
