Decorating Ideas for a Locker

Personalize your locker with some fun and easy decorating ideas. Start out with store-bought magnets, or create your own by buying plain magnets at a craft store and hot-gluing your own photos or magazine cutouts to them. If you use tape in your decorating, make sure it is transparent and easy to peel off. Some schools do not allow tape on lockers, so you might want to ask an administrator at your school. You'll be using your locker for the whole school year, so be creative and change your decorating depending on the season, holidays or your interests.

    1. Basics

      • If your school allows tape on lockers, use drawer-liner paper or wrapping paper to "wallpaper" your locker walls and inside of the door. (Don't cover the vents in the door with the paper.) Many office-supply stores have magnetized items specifically for your locker, such as mirrors, picture frames and small storage boxes. Mix and match store-bought items, or create some of your own. Use cardboard or craft foam and glue magnets to the back to make your own picture frames. Or glue magnets to a small plastic container to keep makeup, erasers and other small supplies in. Cut a piece of cardboard or cork board and glue magnets onto the back. Use pushpins to pin up pictures, notes and reminders.

      Organization

      • Your school gear will be easy to find in your locker with some basic organizational items. For more shelving space, look for adjustable plastic locker shelves at office-supply stores. The shelves adjust to fit your locker size. Keep a mug on a shelf to store pencils and pens. Or use an inexpensive plastic or cardboard cup and glue magnets down one side to attach to your locker door or wall. You can also glue ribbon to the sides of the cup and tie a bow a few inches above the rim of the cup. Hang the cup on a locker hook.

      Themes

      • If you have a favorite season or holiday coming up, or if you want to showcase some of your interests, decorate your locker with specific themes. If you're an athlete, post pictures of your favorite sports and athletes. Decorate small signs that say, "Go Team!" Hang crepe paper or streamers down your locker door in your school colors or your favorite team's colors. If you've just come back from a vacation or will be going on one, pin postcards of your destination to your cork board. Cut out pictures from magazines of travel-related items, such as suitcases, cruise ships and airplanes. For a luau theme, post pictures of palm trees and beaches in your locker. Cut out a strip of green construction paper and cut fringes in it so it looks like a grass skirt. Use tape or magnets to attach the fringe to the top of the inside of your locker door.
