It is OK if a white wedding draped in ribbons and smothered in flowers is not for you. In fact, it is more than OK---it is perfect. It's your special day and should be treated as such. Your wedding decorations should be as unique and interesting as you and your future spouse. Treat your wedding decorations just as you did in finding your beloved; do it your way and get exactly what you want.

    Themes

  1. Choose a theme that fits your personalities and your interests. If you both love New Orleans, have a Cajun wedding full of jazz music and Spanish moss. If you met playing tennis, create a tennis-themed wedding. When both of you are animal lovers, invite all your friends and family along with their pets. Decorate your wedding according to the theme you selected.
  2. Flower Alternatives

  3. There are alternatives to flowers. Balloons work well for bouquets and boutonnieres. Ribbons and bows can also substitute for flowers. Have the bridesmaids carry candles that are battery powered, complete with a faux flickering flame. Use small, decorative fans instead of bouquets.
  4. Lighting

  5. Light your wedding using only candles. For a Gothic look, use only black lights. Hang multicolored Christmas lights that twinkle for a wedding with a large color scheme. Get funky by using several disco balls to light the wedding ceremony.
  6. Pew Decorations

  7. Use only greenery as pew bows. Place large figurines such as miniature Eiffel Towers or Disney characters next to the pews. Try arranging balloons to decorate the pews. Place baskets on the floor next to the pews and fill with flowers. Attach pictures of the bride and groom on the pews.
  8. Reception

  9. Create unique centerpieces for the tables at the reception. Use latex or Mylar balloons to create bouquets. Place small ice sculptures on the tables. For Christmas weddings, use Christmas trees or Nativity scenes as centerpieces. Try cornucopias filled fruit, vegetables and greenery for autumn weddings.
