The Canon Powershot A300 is a 3.2 megapixel digital camera released in 2003. When it debuted, the A300 was touted as an entry-level camera for photographers new to digital photography. The A300 features a 5.1 digital zoom, a 1.5-inch display screen and several shooting modes to allow for high-quality photographs in varying conditions.

Before using the A300, you must insert the batteries and memory card. The holding area for both items is on the left side of the camera. Open the cover by sliding it toward the front of the camera and pulling out. To insert the batteries, press the battery cover lock toward the back of the camera to open the battery cover. Place the two AA sized batteries in the slots as shown on the camera.
The memory card, or CF card, is placed next to the batteries, near the back of the camera. The front of the memory card should face toward the front of the camera. Slide the card into the slot and press firmly to lock it into place. When both the batteries and the memory card are secure, close the cover and slide it back into place.
-
The A300 does not have a traditional "Power" button. To turn on the camera, slide the lens cover fully to the left. This opens the lens and turns on the camera. When you are ready to take a picture, point the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway. The A300 will automatically focus on the subject and beep twice when complete. Finish taking the picture by fully pressing the shutter button.
Your picture will display on the view screen for about three seconds after the image is taken. You can continue taking pictures after the image disappears, or you can turn the camera off by sliding the lens cover back to the right.
-
On the back of the camera is a series of buttons that allow for different functions on the A300. The "On" button allows you to review the images stored on the memory card in your camera. Press the "On" button to bring up the last picture you took. To scroll through all of the images, press the left and right arrow buttons on the omni-directional selector.
If you are unhappy with an image or if you want to free space on your memory card, use the delete function. Scroll to the unwanted image and press the button with the trash can symbol. Using the left and right arrows, highlight "Erase" on the view screen and press the "Set" button. If you change your mind, choose "Cancel" instead of "Erase" and press the "Set" button.
